On the morning of August 25, 2025, the camera fell from his hands, but it captured his final image among colleagues at the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, where he was struck by a sudden Israeli strike while carrying out his professional and humanitarian duties.

The journalist Muath Mohammad Mustafa Abu Taha, born in Rafah on September 14, 1997, was the youngest in his family. He was an ambitious, quiet young man known in his community for his gentle smile, good manners and warm relationships with everyone. He held a diploma in multimedia; for him, photography was not just a profession but a true passion he chose despite its dangers, dedicating his life to it until his last moment.

Muath was not a conventional correspondent, but a voice and image for the marginalized. He worked with several major media outlets such as Al Jazeera, Reuters, Agence France-Presse, and the American NBC.

He carried a sensitive, humane heart behind his lens, working with humanitarian organizations to monitor and document the suffering of sick children and cases of malnutrition, and he shone a light on stories that do not reach the world.

Relatives say: “At first we tried to stop him from entering the field because of the danger, but he was stubborn in his dream. He never left the field since the war began. He did not seek fame, but the truth.”

His final message…

Days before his death, the young journalist Muath Abu Taha shared moving words with his followers on his social media accounts. Between the lines they carried the weight of responsibility and the enormous psychological pressure field journalists in Gaza endure. They were not casual words but a kind of implicit will and an honest cry expressing the depth of his suffering.

On Facebook Muath wrote an affecting line: “By God, we are exhausted… O Lord, You know our condition.” Those words have since become a poignant elegy circulated by his colleagues and friends, testifying to the fatigue, dedication and insistence on fulfilling his professional mission until the last moment, despite all the risks.

After his death, testimonies from his friends and colleagues revealed hidden acts of humanity he carried out away from the spotlight.
>Today his family and loved ones bid him farewell with much pride, repeating: “We present him as a martyr at his post, and we are proud of his testimony, and we ask God to place him in the highest ranks.”
