US site Politico revealed a draft European plan stating that the European Union will urge US President Donald Trump to ensure he does not undermine the future establishment of a Palestinian state and to work to create the political conditions to achieve that goal.
According to the site, the European document stresses the need to “reinforce the positive narrative of the two-state solution” as the only way to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region, noting that the EU is considering coordinating its steps with Washington in this direction.
In the same context, Palestinian Foreign Minister Farsin Agabkian Shahin reiterated during a special session on Palestine at the 11th edition of the Mediterranean Dialogues forum in Naples, Italy, that the two-state solution is indispensable to ensure regional security and stability.
Shahin said the Palestinian National Authority is the legitimate and best-placed body to administer the Gaza Strip, in line with the Palestinian leadership’s aim to unify efforts under one state, one constitution, one law and one armed force.
These European moves come as the region witnesses intense diplomatic activity to cement an agreement to end the war in Gaza, amid growing international pressure to revive the political settlement track.
