Palestinian leader Mohammed Dahlan: Gaza’s resilience paves the way for a new future for our people

Al-Khamisa News Network - Gaza

Mohammed Dahlan, leader of the Democratic Reform Current in the Fatah movement, said that the steadfastness of Gaza’s residents and their immense sacrifices are today a decisive turning point in shaping a new future for the Palestinian people.

Dahlan wrote on his Facebook page: “Gaza, through its steadfastness, patience and the sacrifices of our people, is opening a horizon for the creation of a new future for our people. This great patience and that legendary steadfastness on the land of our fathers and ancestors, the refusal to emigrate or be displaced, and all those painful sacrifices were the driving force for a possible peace whose first spark will emerge from the Sharm el-Sheikh peace summit.”

He added: “We do not trust the occupier’s pledges, and there is no guaranteed future for peace yet. The road remains tough and full of obstacles and difficulties, but the priority now is to stop the campaign of annihilation, protect lives, secure basic life needs — shelter, food, water and medical care — and preserve civil peace.”

Dahlan said some of these responsibilities fall on the leaders meeting at the Sharm el-Sheikh summit, while others are purely Palestinian duties that require everyone to unite in bearing them.

He concluded: “Peace to our steadfast, patient people in Gaza, peace to the souls of the martyrs, peace to the wounded, to our children who have lived a harsh experience that will not be erased from memory, and to our heroic prisoners — those freed from among them and those awaiting freedom… the freedom that will come to our people no matter how long it takes.”
