Second-phase talks begin; 10,000 Palestinian police officers to be deployed in Gaza

Israel and Hamas have begun negotiations on the second phase of President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip.
Mediators are currently discussing sending an initial force of about 1,000 Palestinian policemen trained in Egypt and Jordan to help enforce security in Gaza, which has seen fierce fighting in recent days between Hamas and militants. Egypt hopes the force would eventually number around 10,000 personnel, but Israel, which opposes the presence of the Palestinian Authority in the Strip, is expected to object. In any case, this is a complex task and will take some time to implement.
According to The Wall Street Journal, even establishing an international force under Arab supervision – as proposed in Trump’s plan – could be complicated, as many Arab governments do not want to be seen as occupying the Strip.
According to the report, this is the same “stability” force that is supposed to ensure the disarmament of Hamas and serve as a buffer between Israel and Hamas.
