Tom Fletcher says destruction in Gaza is unbelievable and urgent aid is needed

Al-Khamisa News Network - Gaza

UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher said the scale of destruction in the Gaza Strip “is unbelievable,” adding that most of the infrastructure has been completely destroyed.

Fletcher told Al Jazeera on Saturday that the UN’s 60-day plan includes allowing humanitarian aid to enter first, providing bread, bringing in tents, and improving sanitation services.

He noted there is an urgent need to restart hospitals and schools, in addition to carrying out numerous tasks to rebuild Gaza.

He stressed that opening all crossings in the Strip is vital, saying thousands of aid-laden trucks have begun entering and have had a tangible impact on the humanitarian situation, and adding that the responsibilities placed on his team are very great at this stage.
