UN says some countries ready to contribute to Gaza reconstruction costs

A United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) official said on Tuesday that countries, including the United States as well as Arab and European states, have given promising signals that they are willing to contribute to the $70 billion cost of rebuilding Gaza.

Jaco Sillers of the programme told reporters at a press conference in Geneva, “We already have very good indications,” but he did not provide details.

He said estimates indicate the war between Israel and Hamas left at least 55 million tonnes of rubble in the Gaza Strip.
