A Palestinian fisherman was killed and another injured Monday morning in an Israeli attack off the coast of Gaza City.

The head of the Palestinian Fishermen's Syndicate in the Gaza Strip, Zakaria Bakr, said Monday morning that fisherman Ismail Kamal Salah was killed and his brother, Shadi, was injured by Israeli naval fire while they were working on a small fishing net west of Gaza City.

According to available data, more than 210 Gazan fishermen have been killed, including 60 fishermen who were killed while attempting to reach or work at sea.

In the same context, Zakaria Bakr said that the occupation's gunboats opened fire with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades on the fishermen's nets on a daily basis.

According to Bakr, the occupation destroyed 95% of the fishing sector, including large vessels, fishing nets of various sizes, fishermen's rooms and storerooms, in addition to more than 120 fishermen's warehouses, ice factories, and all civilian facilities in the port.

On July 12, the Israeli military declared a complete closure of the Gaza Strip's sea. The military spokesperson stated that strict security restrictions had been imposed in the maritime area adjacent to the Gaza Strip, where entry to the sea is prohibited. He noted that fishermen and civilians are prohibited from entering the sea, and that anyone who violates the ban puts themselves at risk.
