Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, Liverpool’s forward, was awarded the ‘Player of the Year’ title in England on Tuesday for the third time in his career. This achievement makes him the first player in history to win the award three times since its inception in the 1973-1974 season.

Salah received the highest number of votes from members of the Professional Footballers’ Association and the Professional Footballers’ Federation, earning the award for the third time over nine seasons.

The Egyptian goalscorer surpassed football legends who have played in English leagues, achieving his third win. He outperformed players such as Mark Hughes, Alan Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo, Teri Henry, Gareth Bale, and Kevin De Bruyne, all of whom have won the award twice.

Salah received his first ‘Player of the Year’ award in the 2017-2018 season, his first with Liverpool. He won his second in the 2021-2022 season, and once again secured the award last season thanks to outstanding performances that led his team to win the English Premier League title.
