On Thursday the European Parliament approved a resolution on the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, expressing deep concern about the spread of famine and shortages of food, water and medicine.
The resolution called on Israel to fully and safely open all crossings to allow aid, and to ensure the protection of civilians and medical and relief workers.
It stressed the need for an immediate and lasting ceasefire, alongside the resumption of funding for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which it described as a lifeline for millions of Palestinians.
The European Parliament said in its text that Gaza is at the point of collapse, and that the European Union has a key role in confronting famine and in pushing the political process toward a two-state solution, which it called the only way to resolve the Palestinian issue.
