The Ministry of Health in Gaza warned on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025, of a critical shortage of blood units in the territory’s hospitals, amid a decline in donation drives due to the spread of malnutrition caused by an Israeli starvation policy, issuing an urgent appeal to relevant authorities to intervene and bolster blood supplies.
Gaza’s Health Ministry said: “Hospital blood banks are suffering from a severe and critical shortage of blood units and their components.”
It added: “The nature of the serious injuries arriving at hospitals requires additional blood units to save lives.”
It said the daily need for blood units and components exceeds 350 units, noting a decline in sources for replenishing blood stocks, including community donation drives, due to the spread of famine and malnutrition.
Gaza’s Health Ministry called on all relevant parties to intervene to “reinforce blood unit and component stocks in the territory’s hospitals.”
