Hebrew channel: Netanyahu does not oppose Palestinian Authority control of Gaza under Trump’s new plan

Al-Khamisa News Network - Gaza

The Hebrew-language channel Reshet Kan reported on Thursday evening that the plan being promoted by US President Donald Trump’s administration includes allowing the Palestinian Authority to gradually assume administration of the Gaza Strip, beginning in specified areas.

The channel quoted sources close to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as saying he does not oppose the idea, noting that “there will be no escaping granting the Palestinian Authority a role in Gaza,” amid full coordination between the Trump administration and Netanyahu.

The sources added that the US president will not impose on Israel any measures Netanyahu does not accept, pointing out that the plan is led by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair alongside Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, and has received the endorsement of countries such as France and Britain.

According to Arab diplomats who spoke to the channel, Egypt and a number of Arab and Islamic states participated in the meeting with Trump, where the plan was met with mixed responses ranging from acceptance to reservations.

In this context, Hebrew Channel 12 reported that the plan Trump presented to Arab and Islamic leaders was essentially prepared by Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Der, who heads the Israeli negotiating team, adding that its chances of success are high given international support.

Reshet Kan also revealed in another report a marked rapprochement between Israel and Hamas toward reaching an agreement on the future of Gaza, citing Israeli political and security sources that the movement is “more ready than ever” to enter negotiations, with the Qatari role described as pivotal and vital at this stage.
