Israeli estimates: Trump to present Netanyahu with timeline to end the war

Al-Khamisa News Network - Gaza

The Israeli political scene is awaiting the anticipated meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump, scheduled for next Monday in New York, amid estimates that Trump will present Netanyahu with a clear timetable to end the war in Gaza.

According to Hebrew media reports, Trump, who had previously stressed full coordination with Netanyahu, has begun to change his tone, with the reports saying the U.S. president will insist the war must end within a specified timeframe.

No annexation of the West Bank

Senior Israeli officials said the issue of annexing the West Bank was not raised during the two men’s talks, despite Trump’s public statement days earlier that he would not allow Israel to annex the West Bank. According to Israeli assessments, Netanyahu was not planning to pursue that option in the first place for fear of jeopardizing the “Abraham Accords.”

Analysts say the key question is how the two ministers from the far-right government, Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir, will respond to Trump’s categorical rejection of annexation.

Trump’s “21-point” plan

In the same context, U.S. network CNN on Friday evening revealed additional details of the Trump administration’s 21-point plan, the most prominent of which:

*The release of all Israeli hostages within 48 hours.

*A guarantee that Israel will not attack Qatar again.

*Preventing Hamas from controlling the Gaza Strip, with authority first transferred to an international body, then to a Palestinian interim committee.

*A gradual withdrawal of the Israeli military from the Strip without a clear timeline.

*The delivery of extensive humanitarian aid via a mechanism overseen by the United Nations.

*A rejection of any forcible displacement of the territory’s residents.

The plan states that it does not recognize the establishment of a Palestinian state, while at the same time placing clear constraints on Israel’s military and diplomatic options.

Arab and Palestinian stance

According to diplomatic sources, the plan was presented to Arab leaders during the past week, but enthusiasm for it was limited, with some countries expressing preliminary agreement to proceed with it to end the war quickly.

It is not yet clear whether Hamas has seen the details of the proposal, amid expectations that Qatar will refer it directly to the movement’s negotiating delegation in Doha.

Divergent positions

Trump, for his part, expressed optimism about reaching an agreement, saying “the two sides are very close to a solution,” while Netanyahu stressed he will continue the war until Hamas is eliminated, reflecting a clear gap between Washington and Tel Aviv’s positions on the future of the war.
