Doha disclosed on Monday details of a phone call held between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, U.S. President Donald Trump and Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar’s prime minister and foreign minister, to discuss the fallout from a recent Israeli strike on a residential neighbourhood in Doha.
Qatar’s foreign ministry said the three-way call, arranged through U.S. efforts, resulted in Netanyahu offering an official apology for the attack that hit the headquarters of Hamas’s negotiating delegation, calling it a blatant violation of Qatari sovereignty.
Netanyahu pledged during the call not to repeat any targeting of Qatari territory in the future, the official statement said.
The Qatari foreign minister stressed Qatar’s absolute and unconditional rejection of any violation of its sovereignty, saying protecting its citizens and residents is a top priority. Doha welcomed guarantees provided by the United States and its commitment to the defence partnership with Qatar, a step described as closing the immediate chapter of the crisis caused by the attack.
Resuming its role on Gaza
In a move reflecting its steadfast commitment to regional stability, Qatar affirmed it is fully ready to continue engaging in mediation efforts aimed at ending the war in the Gaza Strip.
It said the decision is part of the U.S. president’s initiative and reflects Doha’s consistent diplomatic approach to addressing regional crises.
