European Union welcomes Trump’s Gaza peace plan, says ready to contribute

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the European Union’s reception of U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip, stressing Brussels’ readiness to play an active role in efforts to achieve peace.

In an official statement on Monday, von der Leyen said the EU considers the U.S. plan a positive step toward de-escalation and stopping the conflict, while reaffirming that a two-state solution remains the only realistic option to achieve a just and lasting peace in the region.

She added that the EU will continue to coordinate with international and regional partners to support any initiative that would ensure security and stability and meet the aspirations of both the Palestinian and Israeli peoples, saying Europe “will spare no effort in contributing to the diplomatic track that leads to ending the suffering of civilians.”
