Report: Hamas open to Trump’s plan but insists on guarantees before accepting

Palestinian sources said factions told mediators that the version of the U.S. plan shown to Arab leaders differs from the one that reached the movement, adding that they are demanding clear guarantees obliging Israel to stop the war and to set specific timetables for the withdrawal of its forces from Gaza, for fear of repeating the Lebanon experience where Israeli forces continued operations despite a ceasefire agreement.
The Wall Street Journal quoted Arab mediators as saying Hamas showed preliminary openness to discussing U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza, but asked for extra time to study its provisions amid increasing pressure from Arab governments to urge the group to accept the Israel-backed proposal.
According to the paper, the movement told mediators it had reservations about some provisions of the 20-point plan, most notably the demand that it be disarmed and its weapons destroyed — a condition Hamas has rejected for years — as well as the difficulty of implementing the clause calling for the release of all 48 Israeli hostages within 72 hours.
The U.S. paper reported that Egypt, Qatar and Turkey made clear to Hamas that it could lose their diplomatic support if it rejected Trump’s proposal.
