Netanyahu’s office says Marwan Barghouti will not be released as part of the deal

The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said the list of prisoners to be released under the ceasefire agreement does not include the name of prisoner Marwan Barghouti.

Barghouti is a member of Fatah’s Central Committee and one of the most prominent leaders of the Palestinian prisoner movement in Israeli jails. He has been detained since April 2002 and is serving five life sentences plus 40 years, convicted of responsibility for operations carried out by armed groups affiliated with Fatah that resulted in Israeli deaths and injuries.

CNN quoted an Israeli source saying negotiations are ongoing over the list of Palestinian prisoners to be released.

It added that teams are working on the list of Palestinian prisoners to be released and that the matter has not yet been resolved.

It said Hamas is demanding the release of prisoners whom Israel has not yet approved.

It confirmed that the Israeli Prison Service has not yet received a list of the names and numbers of prisoners and detainees slated for release.
