Palestinian-American businessman Bashar Bahbah, a close associate of President Trump who tried to mediate between Hamas and the Americans, said Hamas members could be integrated into the Palestinian security forces in the future.
In an interview with Al Arabiya, Bahbah said “the existence of Hamas and its role are two different things, and Israel and the United States will have to accept this, because they will be under supervision and operate within a mechanism”.
He also said: “Disarming Hamas can be achieved by handing its weapons over to an Arab Islamic force. What I understood from the Trump administration is that disarming Hamas is limited to heavy weapons, and the movement does not oppose it “.
Bahbah revealed, saying that “President Donald Trump told me he does not oppose a two-state solution, and that Netanyahu will not annex any part of the West Bank “.
He said ending the war and preventing displacement are the most difficult phases of Trump’s plan. He explained that Hamas’s agreement to the plan came as a result of pressure from Palestinian factions, and that the movement agreed to transfer Gaza’s administration to a technocratic committee. He also said Hamas agreed to end the war last March, but Israel insisted on a partial agreement.
