Ronen Bergman: Exchange deal toppled the “tower of lies” Netanyahu built to justify the Gaza war

Israeli political analyst Ronen Bergman said the latest exchange deal with Hamas exposed the falsity of the official narrative promoted by Benjamin Netanyahu’s government and laid bare what he called the “tower of lies” built to justify the continuation of the war on Gaza.

Bergman said that what has been happening since the deal was signed is a systematic attempt to produce an “alternative reality” intended to escape responsibility and to turn political and military failures into a so‑called “brilliant plan” that has no basis in reality.

He pointed out that Netanyahu’s government had marketed the idea that assassinating Hamas leaders abroad would lead to a deal on Israeli terms, but the result was the exact opposite, causing the collapse of the right‑wing narrative that claimed military pressure alone would be sufficient to return the hostages alive.

He concluded that the truth is more miserable and dangerous than what is being presented to the public, amid intensive efforts to mislead the Israeli public and to justify two years of war without any real achievement.
