U.S. site Axios revealed on Wednesday evening the outlines of President Donald Trump’s plan concerning the future of the Gaza Strip, which he presented to a number of Arab and Muslim leaders with the aim of reaching a political solution to end the war that has been ongoing for more than two years.
According to the site, Trump’s proposed plan includes several key provisions, most notably: the release of all hostages, reaching a permanent ceasefire, a gradual Israeli withdrawal from the Strip, and the establishment of a new governance system that excludes Hamas. The plan also includes forming an Arab security force to administer the Strip, funded by Arab states, with a defined role for the Palestinian Authority in the new arrangement.
In return, Arab leaders presented Trump with a set of demands, including: preventing Israel from annexing parts of the West Bank, stopping any attempt to occupy or establish new settlements in the Gaza Strip, preserving the status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and ensuring the immediate flow of humanitarian aid to the Strip.
The site quoted one participating official as saying: “We left the meeting with great hopes, and for the first time we feel there is a serious plan on the table, and President Trump expressed a clear desire to end the war in a way that serves the region’s interests.”
Two sources who attended the meeting also confirmed that Trump stressed he would not allow Israel to annex parts of the West Bank, a stance that was welcomed by those present.
At the end of the meeting, the Arab and Muslim leaders announced their support for the American principles and their commitment to participate in the “Day After” plan for the Gaza Strip.
Following the meeting, a follow-up session was held that included U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE and Egypt to discuss implementation mechanisms.
Hebrew Channel 12 reported that senior Israeli officials were not surprised by Trump’s intention to present a plan to end the war, viewing his main objective as reaching understandings with moderate Arab states and mustering an Arab force to manage Gaza under American sponsorship, with partial coordination with Israel.
