Britain’s foreign secretary: Israel’s blocking of food and medical aid to Gaza is a moral disgrace

Al-Khamisa News Network - Gaza

British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper described Israel’s prevention of the entry of essential food and medical supplies into the Gaza Strip as a “moral shame.”

Cooper added at a conference in Liverpool held by the Labour Party, of which she is a member, on Monday that Britain has recognised the State of Palestine as part of its support for a two‑state solution.

“Statehood is an inalienable right of the Palestinian people, and our decision to recognise the State of Palestine demonstrates our belief that the only path to lasting security and peace for Israelis and Palestinians is two states living side by side,” she said.

She affirmed that Britain is working with its partners around the world to achieve a ceasefire, lasting peace and a two‑state solution.

“Countries from across the world are stressing the need to end the unbearable suffering of children facing famine and of prisoners being tortured and their families, caused by Israeli security forces preventing food from entering,” she said.

“The Israeli government must put an end to the moral shame of blocking food, water and medicine — an action that is causing human losses that conscience cannot accept,” she added.

“Palestinian civilians should not live another day in fear and hunger; no family should suffer another loss. Enough — we cannot waste a single moment; the time for peace has come.”
