Education Ministry announces start of 2025/26 school year postponed to September 8 due to financial crisis

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education announced on Saturday that it is postponing the start of the 2025/2026 school year to Monday, September 8, 2025, due to the continued effects of the financial crisis.

Ministry spokesman Sadiq Al-Khudour said: “It was decided to postpone the start date of the 2025/2026 school year to Monday, September 8, 2025, with the exception of Jerusalem schools, whose attendance will remain on Monday, September 1, 2025.”

He said the decision comes “due to the ongoing repercussions of the financial crisis facing the State of Palestine as a result of the continued economic siege by the Israeli occupation; the seizure of Palestinian tax revenues; and the impact this has had on completing the preparedness to start the school year on its scheduled date.”
