700 under the genocidal war.. Special report Prepared by: Ahmad Al-Akhras
The genocidal war waged by the Israeli occupation on the Gaza Strip entered its 700th consecutive day since October 7, 2023, at a time when more than 2.4 million Palestinians face a suffocating siege, systematic starvation and widespread destruction the United Nations called the worst in the modern era.
More than 73,000 killed and missing
The government media office said the total of killed and missing reached 73,731 people, including 64,300 documented deaths, more than 20,000 children and 12,500 women.
It also said that the number of fatalities among humanitarian personnel has risen to unprecedented levels:
1,670 medical staff
248 journalists
139 civil defense personnel
173 municipal employees, including 4 mayors
It said about 9,500 missing remain under the rubble or their fate is unknown, while thousands of families have been completely erased from the civil registry.
Health system collapsing under the siege
The statement said the occupation destroyed or put out of service 38 hospitals and 96 health centers, and targeted 197 ambulances.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Gaza’s health system is operating at less than 20% of its capacity, with most essential medicines exhausted and 22,000 patients requiring treatment outside the Strip, including 5,200 children in imminent danger.
The number of amputations has also risen to more than 4,800 cases, 18% of them children, in addition to hundreds left paralyzed or blind.
Education in Gaza… a lost future
The media office said 95% of Gaza’s schools suffered physical damage, while 163 educational institutions were completely destroyed, including universities and research centers.
More than 13,500 students and 830 teachers have been killed.
A report by UNICEF in August 2025 said that “more than 785,000 Palestinian children have been denied education because of the war,” making it the largest education crisis in the contemporary world.
Forced displacement and unprecedented famine
The statement said about 2 million Palestinians were forcibly displaced from their homes, and more than 268,000 housing units were completely destroyed.
On the humanitarian front, it said 650,000 children are at risk of dying from starvation, including 40,000 infants deprived of baby formula, amid a siege continuing for more than 186 days.
A report by the World Food Programme (WFP) in July 2025 described Gaza as “the most dangerous epicenter of global food insecurity,” warning that half of the territory’s population is “on the brink of famine.”
Destruction of infrastructure and agriculture
The media office said the occupation destroyed more than 725 central water wells and 5,080 km of power networks, in addition to near-total destruction of sewage systems and roads.
In the agricultural sector, direct losses exceeded $2.8 billion. 94% of agricultural land was destroyed, and 100% of the fish stock was affected due to attacks on fishermen.
International condemnations and reports
Both Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have described Israeli actions as war crimes that amount to genocide.
The UN Human Rights Council said in its latest report that “what is happening in Gaza goes beyond armed conflict to constitute a systematic policy of ethnic cleansing and genocide.”
700 days of war
After 700 days of war, the figures released by the government media office, together with United Nations and rights groups’ reports, lay bare the unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe facing Gaza’s population, where genocide, forced displacement and systematic famine intersect in a scene that places the world before its historic responsibility.
