Barghouti is a member of Fatah’s Central Committee and one of the movement’s most prominent detained leaders in Israeli prisons. He has been held since April 2002 and is serving five life sentences plus 40 years, convicted of responsibility for attacks carried out by armed groups affiliated with Fatah that resulted in Israeli deaths and injuries.
