Italy’s foreign minister: Palestinians are not Hamas and Israel has gone far beyond the right to self‑defense

In a Thursday morning briefing to the Italian Chamber of Deputies on Gaza, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani stressed that the Palestinians “are not Hamas,” which uses them as “human shields,” and that they “have suffered greatly from Israel’s response, which has gone far beyond the right of self‑defense,” according to AKI.

Tajani said: “The humanitarian situation in Gaza is unacceptable; this massacre must end.”

The Italian foreign minister said the path to peace “will not be easy,” adding, “but if all the main parties — the United States and Israel, responsible Arab states and the Palestinian Authority itself — have the strength and vision to pursue this path to the end, a turning point that changes the history of the Near East could occur.”
