Knesset to debate bill to execute Palestinian prisoners

The Knesset’s National Security Committee is discussing today, Sunday, a bill that would allow the execution of Palestinian prisoners inside Israeli prisons, titled “Death Penalty for Terrorists Law”, according to their wording.

The debate resumes after being postponed for two weeks at the request of Israel’s coordinator for prisoners and missing persons, “Gal Hirsch”, amid fears of endangering the safety of inmates in the Gaza Strip and the onset of military operations in Gaza City.

The bill, proposed by the member of parliament from the party “Otzma Yehudit”, Limor Son Har-Milich, had previously been rejected for similar reasons.

The measure has been rejected several times in the past due to opposition from the ruling coalition and concerns that it could jeopardize efforts to secure the release of prisoners.
