Malaysia calls for suspension of Israel’s UN membership and imposition of sanctions

Malaysia on Friday renewed its appeal to the international community to suspend Israel’s membership in the United Nations and to impose sanctions on it.

Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamed Hassan said Malaysia raised the issue at the UN General Assembly last year and that he will repeat the call at the next session.

He added: “The time has come to suspend Israel’s membership in the United Nations, and for all countries to impose sanctions on it.”

Hassan said that imposing sanctions on the occupying entity would mean restricting the flow of weapons to it, noting that the international community, by a majority, has clearly called to prevent Israel from carrying out its plan to occupy and destroy the Gaza Strip.
