Shin Bet estimates only 10,000 displaced from Gaza City over three weeks

Estimates by Israel’s domestic security service, the “Shin Bet”, published on Saturday acknowledged a weakness in the displacement of Gaza City residents to the central and southern parts of the enclave.

According to Hebrew Channel 12, Shin Bet’s estimates indicate that only 10,000 Palestinians have been displaced over the past three weeks, specifically since Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced he had decided to occupy the city.

The estimates indicated that about 1.3 million people reside in Gaza City.

Israeli forces are preparing to deepen their operations in Gaza City, and are expected to demand the complete evacuation of the city in the coming days.

Local sources in Gaza City confirm that most displacement is occurring within the city for several reasons, chiefly the lack of available space in central and southern Gaza and the high cost of rent there, which reaches at least $1,500 and can rise to $1,800, while transportation expenses are steep and exceed 3,000 shekels for each family attempting to relocate with some of their belongings.
