An Egyptian security source said on Monday evening that Cairo and Doha have handed the Hamas movement a new U.S. proposal put forward by President Donald Trump to end the war in the Gaza Strip.
According to the source, the movement informed Egyptian and Qatari mediators that it will study the plan positively and objectively and will provide its response later.
U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff said “Hamas’s response appears preliminary and positive, but this must be verified through Qatari and Egyptian mediation,” noting that discussions are still at an early stage.
Reuters earlier quoted an official familiar with the talks as saying that the Qatari prime minister and the head of Egypt’s intelligence service briefed a Hamas delegation on Trump’s 20-point plan concerning a ceasefire and post-war arrangements. The official said the delegation showed readiness to study the proposal “in good faith.”
In an interview with Fox News, Witkoff described the plan as “different” and said it enjoys significant support from Arab and European countries, expressing strong optimism about its chances of success. He added that President Donald Trump “is not only seeking to end the war in Gaza, but to achieve peace in other parts of the Middle East,” and said Trump “will push all parties to accept his plan.”
