UN humanitarian office: Gaza needs thousands of trucks and a comprehensive plan to restore life

Al-Khamisa News Network - Gaza

The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs said the scale of destruction in the Gaza Strip is “incredible,” adding that “everything there has been leveled to the ground.”

He said the UN’s 60-day plan aims first to get humanitarian aid in, including the provision of bread and tents and the rehabilitation of sewage networks, along with the urgent need to reopen hospitals and schools.

The UN official added that rebuilding Gaza will require carrying out extensive and complex humanitarian tasks, calling for all crossings into the Strip to be opened permanently to allow the thousands of trucks needed to relieve the population to enter.

He pointed out that recovering bodies from under the rubble requires heavy and specialized equipment, which increases the challenges, stressing that the responsibilities placed on the United Nations at this stage are “very great.”
