U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the war in the Gaza Strip has ended, saying the peace agreement reached with Washington’s support “will be sustainable” and enjoys broad consensus in the region.
Trump said in remarks to reporters: “I believe the peace we helped reach in the Middle East will be permanent. We have ended the war in Gaza, and the hostages will be released on Monday or Tuesday, and all the countries in the region agreed to support this course.”
Trump expressed his gratitude to the leaders of Qatar, Egypt and Turkey “for their help in reaching this wonderful outcome,” noting that he plans to visit the Middle East soon, where “the signing ceremony of the agreement will be held in Egypt.”
The U.S. president added that “several countries will provide a lot of money to support Gaza,” referring to plans to rebuild the territory after the cessation of hostilities.
Trump said Hamas “lost around 70,000 people” during the war, saying “this war must stop.” He also indicated that “the attack on Iran was an important element in reaching the agreement on Gaza.”
