Algeria announces evacuation of 11 citizens taking part in “Flotilla of Steadfastness”

The Algerian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday it had succeeded in evacuating 11 of its citizens who took part in the “Resilience Flotilla” aimed at breaking the blockade on Gaza, via Jordanian territory.

The ministry said in an official statement that the evacuation took place “today” under the direct supervision of Jordanian authorities and came in response to a request submitted by the Algerian government.

The Algerian foreign ministry added that the evacuation was carried out “in close coordination with the Algerian embassy in Amman, which monitored the various stages of the operation on the ground from the time the Algerian citizens entered Jordanian territory until they were secured in temporary accommodation pending their return home.”

The statement added that “the Algerian embassy in Amman provided medical and psychological care for the citizens and met their basic needs, in addition to completing the necessary consular and administrative procedures to facilitate their return as soon as possible.”

The ministry affirmed that the operation “forms part of the higher authorities’ commitment to ensuring the safety of Algerian citizens wherever they are, and to providing all forms of support to them, especially given the difficult humanitarian conditions in the region.”
