The Hebrew Broadcasting Corporation said preparations have begun for talks on the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan concerning the future of the Gaza Strip and who will control the areas from which Israeli forces withdrew.
The Hebrew channel quoted an Arab diplomatic source from one of the mediator countries as saying: “The agenda includes a proposal to form a Palestinian government in Gaza not affiliated with Hamas and that could be supported by international parties.”
He added: “In Arab countries, states are seeking to deploy Palestinian police forces affiliated with the Palestinian Authority, which received training in Egypt and Jordan during recent months, and this would include around 5,000 police to maintain public order. A complementary step would be the deployment of an international and Arab force to assist that Palestinian force.”
It continued: “Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al‑Sisi, who is expected to host Trump to sign the first phase of the agreement on Monday, spoke late last week about the need to deploy international forces in Gaza. At the same time, al‑Sisi and other Arab leaders will seek to persuade Trump to deploy Palestinian police forces in Gaza.”
